A door from the future
#1 When you are locked up by the cannibals, Guybrush will have to escape. Notice that the door of the hut Guybrush is imprisoned in is locked up. If you go back again and get caught, just escape again and the lock on the door changes. Repeat the act again and you will finally see a futuristic door lock.

Another way of blowing up the dam
#1 As you properly know, you blow up the dam by placing the gunpowder on it and then using the flint with the cannonball, but did you know that there's also another way?
Instead of using the flint with the cannonball, you can also use the lens you get by opening the spyglass with the sun and light the gunpowder that way.

#2 You can also place the gunpower on the dam and then use the flint with the entire spyglass. That will also blow up the dam.
Added: Monday, January 7, 2002
#3 You can also use the flint with the staple remover to create a spark.

Cheat code
#1 You probably thought cheat codes didn't exist in adventure games, well you were wrong.
Anywhere in MI1 you can press CTRL+SHIFT+W and the game will ask "Are you sure you want to win? (Y/N)" Press Y and you have won the game!

Cloud face
#1 In the scene where Guybrush is shot from the cannon to Monkey Island, the cloud in the upper right corner is a face. Whether or not it is meant to look like LeChuck is unknown.

Different ending
#1 There are actually 2 endings in MI1. There is not a significant difference, but there is a slight change.

When you are using the catapult on Monkey Island to shoot the banana tree, you can also hit your ship and sink it! If you do that you obviously can't get back to Melee Island using that. Instead Herman will help you by giving you a lifeboat he has been having all those years..........and after the credits you'll see Meethook, Carla, and Otis locked up in the cannibal hut. If you don't sink your ship, you will sail back with Carla, Meathook, and Otis.

Drawing of LeChuck
#1 On the Sea Monkey, when you go down to the crew room, you can see a drawing of LeChuck on the wall.

Free insult
#1 If you talk to the troll and try to insult him (you can try to insult him when you says that you are a pirate) he will say "I once got a dog who was smarter that you!". When you get to fight the pirates once you have been trained by Captain Smirk, you will have that insult in the insult-list.

How to kill Guybrush
#1 When Fester Shinetop throws you in the water, just stay there for 10 minutes. Remember Guybrush can "only" hold his breath for 10 minutes! He will then become very blue and eventually green.
You have to restart or load a savegame after this.

Kill Bob
#1 At the end of MI1 where you're talking to Bob (before Carla, Otis and Meathook come - or Herman;
depending if the boat was sunk), keep trying to kill him - he'll stop you everytime.
But if you try to kill him enough
(not sure how many times) then when you go to walk off, Guybrush stops,
turns around and wastes Bob.

The stump
#1 In the forest on Melee Island is a weird stump. If you look down through it, Guybrush will discover a system of catacombs. He will try to crawl through it and thereafter the game will ask for disk 22, then disk 36 and finally disk 144. Since the player has none of these disks Guybrush gives up. Of course this is just one of the many jokes in the game and there is no way to get down through the stump.
The stump makes another appearance in MI3, check the MI3 in-jokes and secrets page to read more about it.
