#1 If you go to the Barbery Coast, hit Bill, and save him before you speak to him, he will say that the maneuver will from now on be known as the Threepwood maneuver. Why does he call it that when you haven't told him your name?
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#2 If you pour red dye on Palido Domingo without talking to Slappy Cromwell, Guybrush will still say "Look, Palido, you're burning!", but he doesn't know his name...
Added: Thursday, August 17, 2000

#3 When you make Madame Xima put down all the cards, Guybrush picks up one by telling her that there is a 3 headed monkey behind her, so she turns her head. But when he picks up the other cards, he just picks them up without saying anything, but Madame Xima turns her head anyway when he's doing it.
Added: Saturday, March 31, 2001

#4 Guybrush only paid Griswold for the first drink. He doesn't pay for the next.
Added: Wednesday, May 2, 2001

#5 When you talk to Griswold about being a Goodsoup he will ask for your name. You then select a name and when you die you are buried in the Goodsoup family crypt. When you later show the death certificate to Stan with the false Goodsoup name on it, he doesn't object even though he know that your real name is Guybrush Threepwood.
Added: Monday, January 7, 2002

#6 If you give him the ferryman the compass before talking to him, he tells you that he is a ferryman and that he is the flying Welshman. If you then wave your mouse over him it describes him as "mysterious figure". When you start to talk to him Guybrush asks who he is, even though he already knows.
Added: Monday, January 7, 2002

#7 On the billboard outside Goodsoup it say Griswald Goodsoup but that's wrong since Griswold spells with O and not A.
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#8 When the Flying Welchman asks Guybrush where Scabb Island was he say "East by North-East". But according to the map of the Tri-Island Area on the Curse of Monkey Island Manual and on the Lucas Arts logo just before the Intro starts Scabb Island is West by North-west.
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#9 When you have released Stan from the coffin he'll recognize Guybrush and say "Of course! Guybrush Threepwood!". But neither in MI1 nor MI2 Guybrush tells Stan his name, so how does Stan know that his name is Guybrush Threepwood?
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#10 You don't have to talk to Murray at all when you climb out next to the cannon on LeChuck's ship. Later you meet him at the Voodoo Lady's house, and he tells you his name is Murray. But if you examine him, Guybrush says "It's my pal from LeChuck's ship!" How could he know it was the same skull if you didn't talk to him?
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#11 If you end the conversation with LeChuck as soon as you can, he doesn't get to tell you about monkeys or Dynamo-monkelectrics. When Guybrush is an adult and then go
on the roller coaster and look at Wally, he will say: "It's a dynamo-monkelectric Wally" and If you talk to him, Guybrush will say: "...and after I have released the monkeys,...". How does he know about the monkeys or that the word dynamo-monkelectrics exits if LeChuck didn't tell him?
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#12 When Guybrush is looking around the cannon room of LeChuck's ship, he spots a ramrod for the cannon. He also identifies the cannon as self-loading. Why does the cannon need a ramrod if it's self-loading?
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#13 If Guybrush Treepwood is spitten out by the giant snake you can read the plaque in the quiksand by the papapischu plant. Then if you go to brimstone beach and walk over the hot sand he wil say sometimes "Youch" and sometimes "Ah Papapischu" This is wrong because he should only say "Ah Papapischu" when yoy have read the plaque.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#14 In Curse of Monkey Island, the Voodoo Lady says that she has lived on three different islands in the past six years. While the games were created over a period of six years, they took place over two or three years. During MI2, when applying for a library card, Guybrush reveals that he is 19. In the manual which comes with LucasArts Game Pack II (MI1, MI2, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis), it says before MI2: "In the months since he has defeated the Ghost Pirate LeChuck..." (pg. 18).
In MI3, his SCUMM Actors' Guild Membership Card points him out to be 20. The youngest, therefore, that he could have been in MI1 is 18.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#15 If you have read the sign about the Pappapishu bush Guybrush will say Pappapishu instead of Youch! However, if you go and pick up the glowing amber after being in the quicksand Guybrush will say Ouch when he gets burned, but actually he should say Pappapishu.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#16 If LeChuck catches up with Guybrush on the rollercoaster he uses flames to burn Guybrush's feet which makes him leave the scenario. If you have read the Pappapishu sign Guybrush is supposed to say Pappapishu when he gets burned, but he just screams Youch.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#17 When Guybrush is on the top of skull island with LaFoot, he dosn't tell him his name, but when Guybrush waits around long enough in the smugglers' cave, LaFoot comes in and says "I just wanted to make sure Mr Threepwood
got down ok". How did he know his name?
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#18 If you build the compass and fix the lighthouse on Blood Island and travel to Skull Island all before becoming a Goodsoup family member, Guybrush will confront the smugglers by saying he knows that LeChuck sold them the diamond. But how does he know this if he has never "died" and reached Minnie's crypt, where he is surprised to find out that the man Minnie fell in love with and died for was LeChuck?
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#19 When Guybrush pretends to be LeChimp and says "We're all monkeys" and Mr. Fossey replies "You mean in Darwanian sense sir?". This is weird because Charles Darwin didn't start his research until around 1859. Guybrushes adventures takes place at the end of the 17th century. How can they then talk about a man who doesn't exist yet?
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#20 In the beginning of the MI3 Guybrush is so thirsty
and so starving that he whishes for water, bananas, fruits, chiken, and of course grog. But when he reaches the shore, he doesn't do anything to remedy this.
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#21 How can Murray move? How did he in the crypt? Firstly it was locked, secondly how did he get there, thirdly, how did he get up there?
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#22 If Guybrush talks to Palido first, then goes to Slappy, he can still ask him where Palido is, even though he already knows.
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#23 At the beginning of the game Guybrush states that he should get some fruit to fight off the scurvy. If Guybrush has scurvy, he probably wouldn't be able to survive the whole game, or at least have great difficulty doing so.
Added: Sunday, November 19, 2006

#24 When Guybrush asks LeChuck about how he found Big Whoop, LeChuck tells the story of how he set out to find the secret of Monkey Island. According to his story, after his ship sank, he was brought to Blood Island by some "friendly sharks".
But Minnie "Stronie" Goodsoup said: "One day, a real pirate sailed his ship into the bay," refering to LeChuck. What ship, if he had been brought there by sharks?

Programming errors

#1 There is a way to get two gold tooths: Pop Blondebeard's bubble gum and pick up the gold tooth. Then give the chewed gum to Blondebeard and he will get another tooth in his mouth. Take the first tooth you got and place it in some gum, then pop Blondebeard's bubble again and you can pick up a second tooth from the floor.
You can then give the second tooth back to Blondebeard and then leave the shop. This way you avoid the puzzle of getting it out of the shop. (A puzzle that is only in the hard version of the game).

If you use this method, there is no way to give the gold tooth you have to Cutthroat Bill; Guybrush will not give him the tooth in the gum ("I don't think he'd like that").
Whilst in the Barber Shop after using this method, if you inhale some helium then chew the tooth in the gum, Guybrush will ask Haggis for a haircut once Guybrush is in the chair he cannot move and neither can he talk to Haggis.

If you try to chew the gum again whilst in the chair, Guybrush will ask Haggis for a haircut and Haggis will respond in the same way, but this time Guybrush and the handle on the chair will 'float' away to the right side of the screen.

They reappear after a while, but you have to load a saved game and get the gold tooth the normal way to get out of this dead end.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#2 If you use the scissors a second time on Old Blind Pew, the game will crash with this message.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#3 If you put the tofu mask on in front of the open coffin lid the first time you are in the Goodsoup family crypt, a programming error will occur. Part of the mask overlaps the "darkness" layer that makes everything in the crypt look slightly darker. As a result, the top part of the mask is brightly colored when it should be tinted darker like everything else.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#4 After you have given the doggy treats to Old Blind Pew, try clicking on the food bowl with the treats and then quickly click on Old Blind Pew before Guybrush is done talking. Suddenly, there are two dogs eating the treats.
This error only occur in the normal version of the game.
Added: Thursday, November 16, 2000

#5 In part I there is a comb is the treasure room. When you place the mouse cursor over it the text says "LeChuck's unused comb". If you then make Guybrush look at it he will say "I hate to think what that comb has been through".
When it's unused, we must assume it hasn't been trough anything.
Added: Thursday, November 16, 2000

#6 On Blood Island, in the hotel when you take the mirror, and want to go away the bartender says, you should put it back. But if you take the mirror, and die, then you keep the mirror. If you go back to the hotel,
then the bartender notices, that you have stolen the mirror, and you have to put is back. But if you go to the Lighthouse first, and place the mirror in the frame, and then go back to the hotel, the Bartender says nothing. If you put the picture of the old Goodsoup in the mirror frame, the Bartender will look at it, and mysteriously you will get another mirror, that you may keep, or also place it on the lighthouse.
Added: Saturday, March 31, 2001

#7 If you put paste on the skeleton arm when Guybrush is in the quick sand and move in to the top left corner of the screen and then click the left mouse button, Guybrush will walk out of the sand!

When Guybrush walks out of the quicksand the upper right part of the screen becomes and object - or rather a person because if you try to 'give' the skeleton arm to this mysterious 'object' Guybrush says 'I don't think she'd like that'.
Added: Wednesday, May 2, 2001

#8 When Guybrush is on Skull Island, he asks the lift attendant his name, and he answers he is named LaFoot. But when you put after your cursor on him, it is written "Effette LaFoot" although Guybrush could not know his first name.
Added: Wednesday, May 2, 2001

#9 After Guybrush has played poker with the Smugglers, LaFoot enters saying: "There is a delivery man here with a package..." and then the wind blows off the candles. But the subtitles say "There is a delivery man here with a package, is it okay if I sign it ?"
Added: Wednesday, May 2, 2001

#10 In the scene where little Guybrush is trying to get on the roller coaster, after getting rid of the mime, walk to the gate or past it. The upper left area of the scene (a patch of sky) will behave as an object with no name, that is, Guybrush can examine it and try to use objects on it.
Actually, whatever object you move into the area, the associated command will read "give heavy pie pan to", even though you don't have the pie pan. Guybrush will answer "I can't reach it."
Added: Monday, January 7, 2002

#11 When Guybrush is backstage at the showing of 'Spear', you can choose to use the cooking oil on the cannon balls instead of chicken grease. It then shows you the cutscene of the Slappy Cromwell dropping them. If you then look in your inventory, the chicken grease is gone, but the cooking oil remains. When before hand the chicken grease was not used!
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#12 When you talk to King André about the Smuggle Bunnies he says "Ah, the Smuggle Bunnies" but the sub-text say "Smuggle Bunny".
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#13 The headstone in the theater says Yorik but it's spelt wrong as you can see if you have the subtitles on. It's spelt Yorick.
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#14 Before going up to the room in the Goodsoup hotel, get the recipe book from the bar. Go up to the room and pull the skeleton bed down. While it's still down, go to your inventory and "examine recipe book." The game will crash with this error: "Script 2009 stopped with active cutscene/override in exit" and the game will exit to the desktop. This is probably because the game can't make the bed fly up while looking at the recipe book at the same time, since they're seperate actions.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#15 When you are at the Carnival of the Damned when guybrush is a small child, if you click on the sign above the prizes a few times, the whole screen will go black and the characters and some objects appear as a neon dotted outline.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#16 Point your mouse in the upper right corner of the screen at the Brimstone Beach Club after you've selected Murray's hand. Guybrush will look weird and you have to restart the game to bring him back to normal.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#17 When you ask Captain Rottingham if he is a ship captain he'll say "Don't tell me you never heard of Captain René Rottingham." After that Guybrush says "I never heard of Cap.." but the subtitles say "I never heard of Captain Rottingham."
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#18 If you take the tooth in the gum to the Barbery Coast, inhale some helium and then try to chew it, Guybrush will say something about finishing a haircut, and sit down in the chair. (note: you can't get up from there anymore if you've already done the caber-tossing.)
Now before the helium wears off, try chewing the gum once again. Guybrush and Haggis will repeat their dialoge, and then you can watch Guybrush as he slides right out of the screen.
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#19 Minnie says "oh. I know". But in the subtitles they forgot to put the "oh".
Added: Saturday, May 1, 2004

#20 There is an error when Guybrush is El Pollo Diablo.

If you go to the Brimstone Beach Club where the Cabana Boy is, the guy will say as usual 'It's Pollo Diablo! Kill him!" but if you go to the beach where Palido is sunbathing and THEN go around the long way to the front of the club, the Cabana boy doesn't say anything, in fact, you can actually talk to him and he seems to say the normal things, except I think there isn't a choice to what Guybrush can say because it seems to automatically go through the dialogue options when Guybrush talks to the guy each time.
Added: Sunday, December 4, 2005

#21 When you're in King Andre's hideout on Skull Island, if you stand near the edge and use the LeChuck doll, Guybrush will begin to walk over to the table and if you press escape he will stop walking and will slide down to the table without moving his legs.

Graphical errors

#1 When Elaine finds out the engagement ring is cursed she pulls back to hit Guybrush, but just as she is about to punch him she turns into gold. The error appears when you undo the curse, because she pulls back once more, before she strikes him.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#2 In the opening sequence you see Elaine firing a canon that is to the left of her, but when the camera zooms out you can that the firing cannon is at the end of the row and there is no cannon to her left.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#3 Sometime Guybrush has 5 fingers and sometime he has 4.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#4 The animatronic Guybrush in the Monkey Island 2 scenario has no beard.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#5 When Guybrush sits down for a haircut he doesn't untie his ponytail and neither does Haggis. Haggis must be a very good barber if he can cut Guybrush's hair, while it is tied together.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#6 When Wally starts crying he throws his hook on the floor and Guybrush picks it up, but when the ship has sunk and Wally is on the beach, talking to Guybrush and Elaine, he has his hook again.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#7 When Guybrush walks to the cliff where the snake is, there is no plaque, but when he has been swallowed by the snake, there is a plaque explaining what kind of snake it is.
How does the plaque magically appear and how can Guybrush read it when it faces away from him and he is inside the snake?
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#8 In the cutscene where Guybrush places the magic ring on Elaine's finger, the Blood Island lighthouse is suddenly turned off.
Added: Friday, August 4, 2000

#9 With the cannon you can shoot some of the gun towers off the fort, but in the movie where Elaine is turning into gold some of the towers are fixed. If you shoot with the cannon against the walls of the fort it will make black spots, but in the cutscene only a few are left.
Added: Friday, August 3, 2001

#10 When Guybrush gets tarred and feathered on the Sea Cucumber, the monkey that tars him doesn't get tar on his hand even though Guybrush is completely covered. Also, the tar disappears from Guybrush's hands and feet when he's feathered.
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#11 If you go onto the theater stage after you have found the map to where Elaine is buried you will see Slappy Cromwell perform his act. If you then go upstairs BEFORE he does the one where he drops the plates you'll here that crashing noise over and over. After you have cleared the stage, you can hear one of them telling a joke, but there is no one there.
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#12 When you're at the top of the Skull Island you can see Blood Island, but there is no lava coming from the volcano even if it has erupted. When you are in the smuggler's cave you can see the island and the lava's there even if the volcano hasn't erupted.
Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#13 In the cut-scene where Minnie Goodsoup kisses Charles, the statue of Minnie looks like it shocked but how can that happen if it's a normal statue?
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#14 If you grab the Blood island pamphlets on the bar in the
hotel next to Griswold Goodsoup and Guybrush looks at them he will say that there's no pictures or maps. But if you look at the picture in your invintory you can see a map on the third pamphlet.
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#15 If you use the ventriloquism book on Captain Rottingham once and just after Guybrush has laughed you quickly do it again, the book is already up without him taking it out and opening it.
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#16 When Guybrush is shown playing the banjo, he doesn't have a nose.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#17 When on deck of the Sea Cucumber in between the insult sword fights, one can clearly see the cannons are on this deck. However when the Sea Cucumber has run ground at Blood Island, the cannons are now below deck and are sticking out the side from the cannon hatches, with no cannons (or dents on the ledge where the cannons would be) visible on the top deck.
Added: Sunday, February 2, 2003

#18 In the cutscene where Elaine is released of the curse you see the Ring stay on her finger as she punches Guybrush, but a second later, when he goes to hug her the Ring has vanished!
Added: Thursday, July 29, 2004

When the scene finishes the wreath and coffin are there again.
Added: Thursday, July 29, 2004

#20 If you look on the MI3 case, you'll see that the golden statue of Elaine has her arms down by her side, but in the game Elaine is leaning back, in the punch position.
Added: Saturday, April 30, 2005

Incorrectly regarded as errors

#1 If the date on the Gold Sovereign of the CMI's verbs (talk/use/examine) is true (1537) then The Brimstone Beach clubs membership card can't exist because the first owner wasn't a member until 1632.
The date on the coin is 1637.
Added: Monday, January 7, 2002

#2 Also on the billboard it say the volcano-god's act nightly at seven but Griswold says that the volcano errupts at 6 O' clock.
Although the erruptuion when you add the cheese in was
extremely violent the erruptions before the volcano stopped errupted might have been quite gentle ones, so the lava wouldn't reach the Goodsoup restuarant until 1 hour later. Plus, if the volcano erruption had been violent there would have been tremors or quakes, which would coase damage and probably make the Goodsoup's and their custumors leave. People would only risk it if it was gentle.

Added: Sunday, April 7, 2002

#3 When you are first talking to the voodoo lady, she says she has helped you twice before, first by preparing the ghost-anti-root. This is wrong because in Monkey Island 1 the ghost-anti-root was created by the Cannibals.
This is not an error, it is just the Voodoo Lady taking credit for the killing of LeChuck, just like she took credit for it in Monkey Island 2.
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#4 Guybrush takes Murray's cutlass, but when the boat sinks he says he lost it, so how does he have the cutlass again in part III?
He has Mr. Fossey's cutlass.
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#5 When you challenge Edward Van Helgen to a duel, he lets you choose the weapons.
In reality it is the one being challenged, in this case Edward Van Helgen, that picks the weapons.
This is a common misunderstanding. In a duel, choice of weapons was by mutual agreement. It was common practice to allow the challenged party to make the choice, but the challenger had to agree with that choice.
There was no reason why a challenged party could not have asked the challenger to choose weapons
.
Added: Friday, August 9, 2002

#6 How can LeChuck be old enough to have married Minnie Goodsoup when he was mortal at the time he fell in love with Elaine Marley? She is younger than Griswold Goodsoup and since Minnie Goodsoup is Griswold's aunt, it makes Elaine much younger than Minnie.
Minnie Goodsoup is Griswold's aunt. This does not mean that she is necessarily older. Griswold's Grandparents could have had (one of) Griswold's parents very early, then later (a lot later) had Minnie,
after Griswold was born, meaning that Minnie could be around Elaine's age
.
