Treasure Huntin' with us and Telltale! Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (1)
Remember the Treasure Hunt feature Telltale launched? Now it's time to find the next map and we have the honor of hiding it from you! The map piece is hidden somewhere on all sites of the WMI family, which includes this very site, Tales of MI.net, and the Monkey Island wiki.

None of them are particular obvious, but I know us adventure fans like a good challenge so I've hidden them well, but you only need to find one of the maps, so if you can't locate it one of the sites, try on one of the other sites.

The prize? I won't tell you, but in the words of Telltale 'It's got fun content for the series'. So start huntin'!

If you find the map and click it, don't worry if you can't see it on your treasure page right away. You might have to scroll to the right a few times with the little red arrow to see it. It will of course also be in the game when you fire up chapter 1 and start scouring the jungle of Flotsam Island.

Want some hints? Really? You disappoint me! Alright, here are some subtle hints where to find the map:

On this site it hides below three pirates.
On Tales of MI.net you'll find it with the source of much rejoicing.
On the Monkey Island wiki it can be found in the place where you meet them all.

See, it's almost too easy now. Good luck!

P.S. Even if you find the map on one of the sites, try finding them on the other sites as well for the fun of it and the feeling of achievement. Of course, there is also the added bonus of getting to show off to everyone else!

End of an era Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (69)
First, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Next, I will announce that I am closing 'World of Monkey Island'.

This was a hard decision and I've been thinking about it for over a year. I couldn't convince myself to let go of this site, but finally I realized that it's time for me to move on. This website started out of nothing and grew to be the biggest Monkey Island site on the net, but I've reached a point in my life where running a website doesn't have the highest priority and the motivation is also dwindling quickly as there's nothing happening with the MI games. It's been seven years since the last game and there's no indication of a new one coming anytime soon. Basically, I no longer have motivation to continue this site and after 10 years I feel this is the right time to close the site. I came to this decision in August, but I wanted to give the site a 10 year anniversary and I felt the last day of the year was an appropriate day to close the book on WMI. I asked a few people I would trust with the site if they wanted to continue it, but they all declined with the same reasons as me.

I am very proud of this website and what I've accomplished during its 10 years. I can't make a list of all the wonderful things this site has brought me (I actually started making a list, but it was very long), but I have been very happy working on it for 10 years.

Also, don't forget about the Monkey Island wiki which is an excellent and much more effective way to make an information site.

The site will stay online and all content will be available, but news updates, content updates, and fan stuff updates will stop. However, the forums will continue to function as they do now. Haggis has agreed to become an administrator and keep the forums alive so the community still has a place to go. There is also one exception to the stopping of news updates; When Paco makes new comic pages they will be added along with a news post.

The email service will continue, but I urge anyone who uses it to get another free email, like a Gmail. I don't know how many actually uses a @worldofmi.com email. It's ugly and you only get 25 MB of space. Also, the email service will be unsupported so if it goes down it's not sure to come back up. Gmail gives you 2-3 GB and better service, so sign up for one of those :)

Like a bad horror movie I want to leave open the possibility of WMI opening its doors again. It might not be under my command, but in case Monkey Island 5 is announced by LucasArts or someone buys the rights to MI this site will probably spring back to life.

I am not sure I said everything I wanted in this news post, but it's really difficult to write. I want to thank everyone for visiting this site throughout the years. Maybe you've been here from the early years or maybe you're new here, but I hope you have enjoyed your visits.

I also wish to say a very big thank you to everyone who has helped me with this site over the years. Such as Haggis, Ryback, and Junaid. I hope I'm not forgetting anybody. A special thanks goes to Paco who has added so much great art to this site, including the comic of course, and has become a great friend of mine.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, the skull in the Voodoo Lady's predictions represented this day :)

See ya on Monkey Island!

Monkey Island wiki Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (26)
Today we reveal our biggest 10th year anniversary celebration as we launch the Monkey Island wiki! A wiki is an online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Hande, Ryback, Haggis, Paco, and myself have been busy for over six months getting the wiki ready, but Hande deserves a special thank you as he has contributed most of the main articles and spent a lot of time making sure the MIwiki had a lot of useful info, but I'm of course grateful to all. It's still far from done though, and this is where you come in.

We hope that users of the community will find this an exciting, interesting, and fun project and wants to contribute to it. Maybe you find the article for Guybrush is missing something or the Ron Gilbert article is too short and you know just what to add. Then head over there, make an account, and start editing. If you're unfamiliar with wikis there's a useful help section which explain the different syntaxes used in the wiki, how to make text bold, italic, etc.

If you have a lot of great ideas and want to help shape the look and usefulness of the MIwiki and you're interested in becoming part of the MIwiki moderator team, then send me an email and tell me why you want to be a moderator. All we ask is that you're interested in the MIwiki and willing to spend at least some hours each week on it.

Remember. you don't need to be a moderator to contribute to the wiki :)

Either way, check out the Monkey Island wiki at www.miwiki.net and have fun.
We hope you'll like it!

Page 52 of MI1 comic Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (16)
You probably don't care anymore. It's like burgers and fries; It tastes good once in a while, but when you get it every day it gets boring. Anyway, we present page 52 of Paco's MI1 comic :) This is the last page for now, but Paco promises to continue the comic on a more frequent basis in 2008. For now, enjoy page 52 :)

Return of the MI1 comic Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (11)
What? Where? You thought is was dead. You thought we buried it alongside Rapp Scallion. You thought... something else, but no, it has returned! Another fine prediction from the Voodoo Lady comes true today as we present a new page of Paco's MI1 comic, Sure, it's been a while since the last page, 22 months actually, so enjoy this baby, you never know how long it will be until the next! No, hehe. I joke. That's what I do, I make stupid jokes and get weird looks. Anyway, enjoy page 50 and be sure to check back tomorrow, there might be another treat in the stocking...

See the MI play in Texas Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (7)
Chris Heady, of the Monkey Island play wrote to say this:

Julianne Cain is the first person to accomplish a successful run of the Secret of Monkey Island play in over two years. It's going up at San Marcos High School in San Marcos Texas. December 3rd, 7th, and 8th... for those who can travel. Go. This should be great.

So if your near San Marcos Texas, make arrangements and go see it :)

It should be a movie Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (5)
Another day, another list. Alvaro alerts us that New York Entertainment has posted a top ten list entitled 'The Ten Video Games That Should Be Movies (and the Directors Who Should Make Them)'. The list isn't too serious as it claims people are sick of pirate movies and therefore places Monkey Island at #9. The suggested director is a nice choice though.

Holland loves us Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (3)
Monkey Island and worldofmi.com was mentioned In the Dutch news paper 'NRC Next' last Thursday, November 20th on page 35. Jaap Jansen emailed to tell us about it and was nice enough to include a scan of the article. I have no idea what it says, but Jaap provided a rough translation as well:

4 PLAY

A lanky boy named Guybrush Threepwood wants to be a pirate and arrives on a Caribbean island. Soon, the attractive governess has to be rescued from a spook pirate. This is not the plot of a bad b-movie, but of a classic computer game. The secret of Monkey Island. This adventure game, from 1990, is still worthwhile. Of course, the graphics can not be compared with those of today, but what makes MI as much fun is its humor. A pirate apprehends you on the street and says. "You fight like a dairy farmer" Then you say "How appropriate, you fight like a cow!" Also the three successors are decent and have ensured a true cult scene. Worldofmi.com has been publishing for 10 years stories and art of fans. And in 2005, the American Hammond High School even witnessed a genuine Monkey Island play.

Our quest for world domination is one step closer!

Monkey Island on your iPhone Posted by: Haggis | Comments (6)
If you own (or stole, in which case you should really turn yourself in to the police) an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can now install ScummVM on it, with which you can, for instance, play the first 2 Monkey Island games no problem, and Curse of Monkey Island with a little juggling. All the gory details on how to get ScummVM on your hipster accessory can be found here at the ScummVM wiki.

Ten Years Ago on Kotaku Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (1)
Kotaku has posted a small article named Ten Years Ago: LucasArts' Monkey Island Duo. The feature has a few questions and answers with Jonathan Ackley & Larry Ahern from 10 years ago and comments on whether their predictions turned out to be right.

Remember, we also did an interview with Jonathan Ackley a few years after the release of CMI. Read it here.

Thanks to Wally B. Feed for the notice,

Dominic Armato turns 31 Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (12)
We don't usually mention birthdays here on WMI (mostly because we forget them), but BeeKay84 reminded us that today is Dominic Armato's birthday and the nice lad with the sweet voice turns 31 this year. Happy birthday Dominic!

MI makes another list Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (4)
Next Generation has posted a list of what they think are the 50 Greatest Game Design Innovations. Although not mentioned by name, we must assume The Secret of Monkey Island is the inspiration for #9.

Thanks to Scott for the notice.

Checkmate LeChuck Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (8)
Check out this cool chess game at The Adventuress where the pieces are made out of clay in the shapes of our favorite adventure characters. As the king and queen we have Guybrush and Elaine while LeChuck and an undead Elaine make up the royal couple on the other side.

Techno remix Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (3)

Ron Gilbert interview! Posted by: Dalixam | Comments (13)
The Fortune Lady's first prediction has come true! After 10 years we finally managed to corner Ron Gilbert in a public restroom and force some answers out of him. Read the full interview in which we learn his true feelings about Halo, how often his thoughts wander to half-naked men in ropes, if he's tired of Monkey Island, his view on future games and much more. Maybe he even reveals THE Secret?! Maybe not... Find out in our 10 yeah anniversary interview with Ron Gilbert :)

Here's an excerpt to wet your appetite;

I love episodic. When I left Lucasfilm back in '92 my original idea was to do episodic adventure games (mailed out on floppies!). That idea morphed into going the smaller adventure games for kids.
